Teeth Eruption

If your child is experiencing pain or discomfort while their teeth are erupting, many of the following suggestions may help.

  • Clean and rub their gums with your finger.
  • Rub their gums with the back of a small, cold spoon.

If pain persists please contact your dentist, pharmacist or pediatrician who can suggest over-the-counter medicine to soothe your child’s pain.

Important reminders:

  • Do not rub any kind of painkiller on your child’s gums. Your child may swallow it.
  • Do not give your child teething biscuits since these are often a hidden source of sugars.
  • Check if your child has a fever. Teeth eruption should never cause your child to be sick or run a temperature. Contact your pediatrician if your child has a fever.

Your child should have all his primary or baby teeth (20 teeth) by the time they are 2 or 3 years old.
